I watched Son of Godzilla. This one is really hokey with the goofy music, Minilla's slapstick parts and the fact that Godzilla looks ridiculous in this one. Plus the plot is a little weird and the whole thing takes place on a secluded island away from civilization which kinda takes you out of the usual Godzilla universe. But it's a lot of fun.

![]() "Is all what we see or seem but a dream within a dream...?" Frankly, I didn't think much of The Raven other than a mystery whodunnit with Poe as the central figure. But when I learned James McTeigue was the director, I HAD to see it. (most of you should know why) And, like his first directorial effort, McTeigue did not disappoint. Fantastic gloomy and gothic atmosphere, a picture-perfect "graphic novel"-esque whodunnit based on Poe's works complete with plenty of gory murders and set pieces, two superbly developed complex characters in the main protagonist and antagonist (specially the former), very pacy script which keeps you engrossed, and a true blue climactic ending which feels very real considering the whole buildup of the entire film. Take a bow, James McTeigue and John Cusack. If you are a true Poe fan and have read all/most of his works, you will thoroughly enjoy it. A brooding, taut and superbly made film - I am definitely getting the Blu-Ray ASAP. Don't go by the negative vibes this film has generated ever since it's release. Watch it and decide for yourself. As for me, I loved it from start to end, and will toss it a pretty high recommendation. * * * *

The Divide.
I guess this is another one of those films where Michael Biehn is just there to pay the bills. It starts off with a sad yet beautiful sci-fi type shot. But turns into complete crap. The characters are for the most part worthless scumbags. As soon as the veil of society is lifted or something is lost, they all revert to base behavior. There is a twist dropped in the movie which is never explained. The characters don't seem to care about it either. It's kind of like if in Night of the Living Dead, no one cared about the zombies outside and started fighting each other for no reason other than base survival. The movie is long too with an ending that will make you wonder why you even watched at all. |
