Haven't heard anything of a sequel, but it wouldn't surprise me. Check out the original, "Ringu", which hasn't been sanitized for an American audience. It's uber better.

I, for one, actually thought that The Ring was very good. However, it is a movie where it is only scary the first time you watch it, because after that you know when all the scary parts are coming. But I think that it is scary on a more psychological level than actual in your face horror.
