Wasnt this based on like a 70s or 80s indie film? I dont know because i think i saw the original and it was alright. But i dont like the Rock acting.......

I dont like the Rock much either.
Vin Diesel is alright.
And yes it is a remake, as such. But i believe its only very loosely based on the movie....which was based on real life...so...
