comedy horror

i absolutely love this sub genre. i don't mean the kind of film that tries to be serious but is so bad that it's funny, or out and out spoofs like scary movie or club dread (both of which sucked IMO). i mean the ones that know they're ridiculous and go straight for the jugular. evil dead 2 and 3 or cabin fever are prime examples but my absolute favorite comedy horror has got to be lake placid. it has some decent gore and a few scares, but the main ingredient here is laughter. betty white? are you kidding me? not to mention oliver platt and bridgette fonda in knockout performances. this film received terrible reviews because critics were too stupid to realize the entire movie was a joke. what film maker in their right mind would put a thirty foot croc in a fresh water lake in maine and actually be serious about it. anyway, i'm rambling. feel free to comment on lake placid your favorite horromedy.

I love the comedy/horror sub-genre. It's pretty hard to pull it off though because there aren't a lot of them out there. Evil Dead 2 and Dead-Alive top my list and are both hysterical, the laughing deer and giddy baby zombie will always hold a special place in my heart :p . Your right however, movies that are so bad they are funny don't really do anything for me; I just see them for what they are ... pathetic.

PS- Maybe it's just me but I didn't think Lake Placid was trying to make a joke of itself. I thought they took a serious tone with the movie, sure there were a few laughs but not enough to warrant it an attempt at pure comedy.

i didnt find brain dead (aka dead alive) to be as gory as everyone said. I was hoping that in the lawn mower scene you would see the mower making contact with the zombies. It was still good though

Yeah Brain Dead was very well made on a very small budget. Hopefully he returns to horror comedy one day and non CGI effects.

Have you saw any movies that you consider more gory? Honest question because if there is one I want to see it lol.

Well King Kong is next on his list, hopefully he'll decide to turn it into a gore fest :D .
