One of the cultiest cult movies of all time is coming back to the big screen just on time for the holiday season.

Yes, it's 1964 gem Santa Claus Conquers The Martians - in which Santa Claus is kidnapped by aliens who want him to make toys for their children instead of humans - and it's hitting theaters across the nation as part of a revival of classic cult holiday titles.

Delightful two-hour holiday program for the whole family. A retro-rocket flashback to the Sixties that's chock-full of happy Christmas memories including vintage "Greetings From The Theater Management" ads, two charming Max Fleischer Technicolor cartoons ('Christmas Comes But Once A Year' and "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer'), wacky 1950's shorts like "Howdy Doody's Christmas', a bouncing ball animated sing-a-long to "Jingle Bells" and much, much more. All this culminates with the restored version of the hilarious 1965 retro-favorite SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS -- In 'Space Blazing' Color!

I actually own that movie. I'm planning on watching it this year during a Christmas marathon of horror movies.

I think it's a great idea to release programs like this to theatres. I'm hoping families will flock to this event and it will show studios that they don't have to spent millions producing mediocre 3-D crap to make a profit. Or retro-3Ding past blockbusters for re-release, for that matter.

You would hope so but i think too many people are getting into the stupid 3-D crap and not enough people are actually enjoying good movies. I don't think people watch movies for the right reasons anymore or maybe i've just become jaded towards the general movie going public.

I work in market research for the movie industry, and most adults we poll say they are tired of the 3-D fad. They hate the extra cost, they hate the crappy quality, and there are more people than you would think that have issues with viewing it.

The studios are determined to cram it down the public' throat because they have so much invested in it. They'll keep at it till the public stays home en mass, but eventually they're going to have to face up to the fact they're driving their audience away.

Well most of my friends (including me ) find 3 d annoying and have decided to avoid 3d completely.

I've never seen Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Perhaps this year will fianlly be the one where I watch it, as every year someone mentions they're going to see this film.

Of course, they're my two favourite Christmas films to consider, The Muppets Christmas Carol (the absolute best version of Dickens' story) and Die Hard.

Also, I'm planning to go to the movies on Christmas Eve as well, which used to happen every year when I was growing up. Not to mention that at the moment I try to go the the movies every week or two to check out the latest releases.

As for 3D films, I figured they were going to be a fad from the get-go. They didn't take in the 50's, nor in the 80's...they're not going to last. I've seen a few films in 3D, but I've never been a big fan of the experience.

I remember watching Thor and when debris flew at the screen it looked a mess. Not to mention that the glasses are so tinted, the picture looks darky and muddy (I always wondered why 3D features weren't played at a higher contrast to compensate)

That being said, I continue to go watch them, and sometimes they do alright (the re-release of The Lion King was good, beacuse it added depth, without being swamped by effects) and when Star Wars Episode I comes out in 3D in the new year, I'll see that...couldn't keep me away (yes, I'm sad)

So overall, I'm not a fan of 3D films, but I'll watch one happily enough and I've taken the philosophy of making the most of it while it lasts.

Unfortunately i think more teenagers and younger audiences go see movies more but hey i could be wrong and i hope i am. I hate the 3-D fad and think it's killing movies.
