there's a whole new breed of these coming now with DVD collections and shorts shows on cable. Debbie Rochon hosts Trailer Park on Fango TV. I got to see some of it at the con last year (we don't get the channel here in FL yet) and it was obvious it was heavily influenced by these old hosted shows.

Oh man, did that bring back memories. I watched Dr. Shock (Philadelphia) every Saturday afternoon. I was devastated when his show ended and then when he died. He died very young, too. I went to high school with his daughter Debbie.

we used to have a count somebody or other - he was pretty funny. then we had some tv news stiff who did Freaky Food and Flix which had local 'celebrities' (as if) doing recipes with cheap public domain films. Then, the worst, they had this seven foot tall bald guy take over that show and he thought he was so funny but goddamn it was the most cringe-worthy thing i have seen this side of The Office (except it was REAL). Thank god it got cancelled- i literally had to leave the room it was so awful and embarssing.

now the only local movie show we have is a classic movie show (a few horror but mainly straight hollywood classics) with some professor from the local college doing intros and closes (like TCM) - he's good and smart but no schtick

I used to watch Son of Svengoolie growing up in Chicago.
He was goofy, but I wouldn't have missed it for anything.

I had the great pleasure of watching Dr. San Guinary host Creature Feature in Omaha in the 70s. This guy was the real deal- he really enjoyed what he did and he became a huge local celebrity. Polititions would beg to be on his show just for the cred it gave. He passed away years ago, bless him, but what memories.

Now he's just calling himself Svengoolie.
