The Year in Review

For the couple of people who might actually be interested - here's what i've been up to in the last year or so since my last post. I'll try to keep this interesting for horror fans as much of it is related.

DVDs .. I bought a whole bunch, then i slowed down. then i slowly started buying a whole bunch again.. then i slowed down again.
I'm just beginning another slow down period.

I have fallen in love with a piece of technology : the PSP. I bought one used and it has to be the most amazing electronic gadget i've ever owned.

My son was diagnosed with ADHD a couple of years ago. The useless school he goes to weren't prepared to do a damn thing for him. He's a sensitive, bright friendly kid - but he was all over the place - needed 1 on 1 help to stay focused - but the school wasn't doing fuck all but complaining about his behavior. after a lot of researching, soul searching, and speaking with experts - we went the medication route.

its been like day and night. he's doing excellent in school, and in soccer.
he went from being an unfocused kid to being one of the brightesty in the bunch .. and after 3 years of soccer .. he scored his forst goal on his last game this year - quite a milestone for this kid ..

he's also gotten taller (and skinnier)

At the end of last summer - I attended the Toronto fan-con ... met some very interesting people - got a lot of DVDs signed..
Was invited to the Rue Morgue private party that some of the guests attended and spent a couple of hours having a beer at a table with H. G. Lewis.

Also saw one of the members of Goblin with a couple of other fellows play all the major Goblin movie themes live - i almost died - it was unbelievable.
Then - Coralina Cataldi -Tassoni (Demons II, Opera, Mother of Tears) came onstage to sing one of her songs - and then provide vocals ("the witch, the WITCH') to the Suspiria theme. incredible night.
I took photos and presented a disc of them to Coralina at the con the next day and she used them on her private web page as well as her myspace.

here's a couple of samples :

looking forward to this years - but on a sad note my friend Chris Alexader wont be there representing Rue Morgue this year as he's moved to Fangoria as a writer there now - so i won't be able to hang with him at this years con.

which brings me to :

Chris knows I love photography and have a half decent camera (i finally graduated to digital-SLR - a Sony alpha 100 which is basically a Minolta)
I am now ready to graduate to a professional quality Nikon for reasons I'm about to reveal - but i dont have the 6 - 7000$ to spend on one yet.

anyway - Chris had an interview to go to for Fangoria - to see Gaslight Studios - the guys who did the zombie work for Diary of the Dead among other things - and he asked me to come along as a photographer - which i did.
On eof the pictures I took was used in March Fangoria - the one that's out right now. Just a small picture - but i took it, my name is in there as a credit ... so after all these years - i got something published in a magazine - let alone a horror rag :)

Since then i went on one more visit : a press junket for Rambo - with the beautiful Julie Benz. (she also plays Rita on Dexter)

this is after Chris got me hooked on Dexter - which i think is the best TV show ever made. (next to SCTV)

here are a couple of pics from the gaslight interview - and Julie Benz :

this is the one the magazine used :

Julie Benz : (they went for a Dexter production still - but i didnt care - it was agreat experience just being there)

Took our son to his first concert this year : Roger Waters - amazing
and his first musical : We Will Rock You - hideous piece of shit - but he liked it

I avoid it at all costs - it is the most useless endevour one can participate on a forum. I post as a form of relaxation.

I'm not interested in seeking out negativity. I expect every experience on a fourum to be pleasant or i'm just not interested.

thats my philosophy. took me a while to get here but what i learned is - nothing is gained by fighting on the internet. you CANNOT force people to think the same way you do no matter how right you think you are. so it's best to ignore what you don't like and concentrate on the positives. and when the former outweighs the latter - it's time to move on.

disclaimer ****(racist, sexist, and similar other activities are fair game though. they are the things you can't ignore - as it promotes acceptibility when you do)

anyway - i cant think of anything else that is worth mentioning at the moment.

if i do think of anything i'll add it here

That was the beginning of the best thread since I've been back (and proof that urge is not a personality of mine:D ). What an adventure. To see Roger Waters would have me in a tizzy. Your son is adorable. Also, I love photography, and am an amatuer. Those pics were incredible. I like nature myself. If I want to branch out, it means driving an hour to Charlotte. (Am going to Columbia this weekend for St. Patricks shennanigans, so we'll se what Heather produces).

That is easily THE news of THE year. For him to make such a remarkable comeback...especially when he had no outside support...is truly amazing. I am sure you, as a Dad, score all the points here. Dont deny it.

I am really happy and touched to know this...and I sincerely hope and pray he has the most happiest life and brightest career anyone can get.

You lucky bastard!:D

I would gleefully give a hand or a leg to meet Goblin and Coralina! I envy you so much now...but its all good. She has a remarkably bewitching voice...it would have been mouth-watering to hear her face-to-face.

Roger Waters! Where was this...at Toronto? And its good to see the young one appreciate the fine arts. He is showing a knack of appreciating them...maybe someday he might make a career out of it.

I say...those are some pretty cool shots. Should have sent some of em to a nature mag or something...try shorelines at dusk/dawn, especially near a lake or on the backdrop of the cityline. Either way, the pics come out amazingly rich and life-like.

I cannot agree more. And I am REALLY glad you put everything behind and returned back.

A very insightful last year indeed...it was like turning the clock backwards one year and watch everything unroll slowly...things look a lot better on your front, thats for sure.

But I still got 2 questions :-

1 - How is your leg now? Completely recovered from the surgery you had like a couple yrs back?

2 - What about the weight loss program you were on? Shed any kilos recently?

good questions ..

the knee is still bad ... but not as bad. I'm still playing volleyball a couple of days a week but i gave up on baseball because i wanted my weekends free (for the 1st time in 9 years)

My right shoulder and right elbow have been giving me a lot of grief - so much so that i've learned how to hit with my left arm now .. but i'd rather stay active with some pain, then do nothing comfortably.

as far as the weight goes - i dropped 30 pounds - gained 20 back .. and now i'm dropping again.

also became seriously lactose intolerant araound a year ago. i was sick for 3 months - thought i was dying or something - until i ran out of milk for my cereal one morning and was instantly better ... weird.

Looks like its been a pretty good year for you Urge.It is a breath of fresh air to have you back here....as well as some of the other vagabonds:D

I'll agree with you on Dexter.....a most excellent show...one of the only TV show I watch anymore and my wife likes it to. Julie Benz is a cutie but Lila was sexy as hell.

I saw Roger Waters the summer before last and it almost brought a tear to my eye.

Keep the pics coming.....great stuff:D
