Horror is dead.

With no (or very very few)good horror movies released within past few years and with very very few good ones about to be released horror i'm sad to say is dead. It looks like i'll be going to the old section of the video store for my horror fix from now on.:(:( :( :(

Indeed it has been dead for twenty years. I hate the new stuff, but I watch it anyway so I can write reviews on it so people will no longer watch it.

New horror? New horror is for the most part a big Pootie! Except for, well, I don't know. There might be a few things, and I liked Below (the haunted submarine movie) a lot--really fun and scary movie.

Bah, there's still gems released every year. Personally I think there's just as many good horror movies released today but the fact that there are hundreds more crappy movies released by their side takes the shine off a little bit. In 2006 there were 805 movies released while in 87' we only saw the release of 201. With just over 600 more movies theres bound to be a LOT more crap especially with how far down the cost of making movies has come. Of course there's always the nostalgia facotr. How many times have you heard somebody say something like the toys, cartoons, tv shows, music, etc... was better in "their day"?

thats true.
I think that for most avid horror fanatics out there..
the old kind of scare monger movies ruined us.
Admittedly..there are some pretty good stuff out there..
i suppose you just have to look or play the wait and see game
as to the next new releases.

Bullshit!

Horror lives and breathes as it always has...underneath the bed, in the closet, down the darkened alley and in the quiet fears we all hold dear.

The Descent, 28 Weeks Later, Grindhouse, Hatchet, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Hard Candy, The Host, Bug...

These are good films, some of them are great. Of course there's a ton of crap out there, but that's just because everyone is content-starved. Too many things made too fast simply to fill time, but good stuff is there and more of it is coming.

How many of you "horror fans" went to see Bug this weekend instead of Pirates of the Caribbean? You can bitch about it or you can help the situation by GOING TO SEE THE FILMS IN THE THEATER!

Like Despare touched on, I think it has to do with the quantity of films coming out nowadays. There's gonna be probably 5-15 pretty good horror films in any given year. In the 80s, there might have been 10 good ones one year and 30-40 stinkers. Now, we still get about 10 good ones a year, but there's more like 200 stinkers out there with all the straight to video stuff.

There's still good horror being made, you just need to know where to look.
