war of the worlds is an excellent movie, thanks the genious mind of steven spielberg. i would recommend seeing it. excellent special effects. the aliens are completly different than the oringinal. i give it a thumbs up. i dont understand why people say that the ending was disappointing. it should have ended the way it should. they killed all the aliens.

The ending was disappointing because, first of all, the aliens should have won. A fatal flaw in the entire War of the Worlds concept is that the aliens would be so vulnerable to earthly bacteria. A race advanced enough to travel through space and construct death machines on such a large scale would certainly be advanced enough to bring doctors with them. And do they expect us to believe that these invaders would not have conducted research on this exact subject? Right.
On top of this, it was pretty cheesy when the son walked out of the house. Typical generic Hollywood garbage. Just how the hell did he survive that massive explosion?

Ohh wait I have a better theory. Maybe the aliens "seduced" him and decided he was better off left alive. :D

Or maybe the explosion was farther from him than you thought. Have you ever seen an explosion in real life?
How about looking at some of the positives of the movie instead of breaking it down just to be like everyone else in the thread? I really enjoyed this movie, especially the tripods. It actually scared me a little, when the people were all trapped and getting mutilated one by one, and the veins of blood and suction stab, thing. Plus the great suspense scene in the cabin. 6.5/10

could be, but the way they showed it, the son ran forward with the military over the hill after which the explosion occurred right after he disappeared into the exact spot.
Also, nothing was said by the son in the end regarding how he survived and made it to his mother's house. So, it pretty much left the audience to "guess for themselves"??

I see nothing wrong with that.

Cant expect a person like Spielberg to make glaring mistakes like that. Also, a super-advanced race of invading aliens have no idea of microbes on our planet? And from the movie's (and supposedly novel's) early plot premise, the simple ending shoulda been that the aliens won, and the humans were captured or put to death.
The ending sorta reminded me of "Independence Day" where another race of "ultra-advanced" aliens were taken out by a computer virus? Seems like these ultra advanced aliens dont do much research on a planet before attacking to capture it. How stupid of em eh!

The aliens dont have any concept of bacteria or viruses. Where they come from there is no disease or illness, there are no germs or whatever to make them aware that such things may exist on Earth.
They are so driven by their huge, malevolent intellects that at no point does it cross their mind they could be vulnerable in any way. Read the book!

Oh, and yes, the scene in the cabin was cool. I actually thought the aliens were kinda cute.

But that was his mistake of saying they had been here before wasn't it?
If they had been here before because their mechanical tripods were here all along they would have been exposed to the bacteria in the first place. Its setting was all wrong, even if you say it needed to move where and when the story takes place (which should have been in London 19th century). The story was about the struggle of man and mans defeat at the hands of the alien race, not the struggle of one man and his screaming brats because they have no respect for him. And worse of all for me is there is talk of a possible 2 more followups of this nature. I will say that the CG was pretty good, but you have come to accept that from the blockbuster movies now. A generous 3 / 10 |
