Has Anyone Seen....???

Anyone see the Spider-Man 2003 animaed series that aired on MTV???
I did, and fucking loved it. Here ya go:

When I heard about the new-ish Spider-Man show that aired on US MTV back in 2003, I went and got myself the complete first series on dvd. I've recently watched through and enjoyed the series yet again, so I thought I'd write about it...

The series was produced by Avi Arad, who worked production on pretty much ALL of Marvels recent run of movies, good and bad.

A lot of voice talent was happening here;

Neil patrick Harris - Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Ian Ziering - Harry Osborne
Lisa Loeb - MaryJane Watson
Michael Clarke Duncan - Kingpin (again)
Michael Dorn - Kraven The Hunter
Virginia Madsen - Silver Sable
Ethan Embry - Mac Dillon/Electro
Rob Zombie - Dr Connors/The Lizard

With James Marsters, Kathy Griffin, Jeffrey Combs, Stan Lee and Eve also making appearances.
I was pretty impressed...

As for the show itself, it's something of a hybrid of elements from the movie...and a little bit of inspiration from the Ultimate SpiderMan comic, in that there are a few new characters, and a few old characters with new storyline twists.
To me, this was not a problem at all...
The main storyline follows both the exploits of Spider-Man, and the relationships between Peter, Mary Jane and Harry Osborne in their first year at the "ESU" college, along with a few other characters that drop in and out of the cast.
Peter is at this point still hiding his identity, Harry still resents Spider-Man for the alleged death of his father, and there's still much of the "will they/won't they" chemistry between Peter and MJ. The characters and their interactions with eachother are as 3 dimensional as you'd want them to be, both the "good guys" and villains.
Following the show was a lot like reading through a comic, as opposed to watching the movie. Very comic "feel", and it's actually FUNNY.
FINALLY somebody had given Spider-Man his comics-style banter, not to mention the humourous jokes and referances used throughout the non-spidey scenes...

The animation is great, cartoon blended with CG.
Some rather Hollywood and experimental type "camera angles" were put to good use.
Naturally, the "cartoon" format allowed for a few more "extreme" villains to make their appearances. As I said, their histories had been changed a little - but it was interesting to see.
Some absolutely brilliant 3D animation made some spectacular (no pun intended) web swinging and fight scenes, and various clips put together on top of some good music make for an excellent opening sequence.
You really FEEL as though you're there as it all happens, the speed and ferocity of the action sequences is absolutely convincing, or, well...as convincing as a cartoon would ever be.

I absolutely enjoyed this series, but it seems I'm one of only a few. I myself cannot understand why people wouldn't like the series, the ongoing storyline was just awesome...anyways, I'm not gonna question it, I liked it, that's all that matters to me.

When I was done watching the series for the first time, it ended with a cliffhanger. So, I checked out the net to see when more of the series would be coming my way.
It had been cancelled after the first series.
I was shocked, it had never even occured to me that this might have happened. FUCK!!!

Anyways, after watching it this time, I decided to have a look at some more info on the series...apparently, the series is coming back.
Superherohype.com reports
"Avi Arad also told us that a second season of the Spider-Man animated show is still in development. The first season aired on MTV, but the second season will be going to another channel."

This was FUCKING AWESOME news for me, I'm SO looking foward to it, and hope to god that it actually happens.
There is hope...I seriously think that there's a lot they could do with this series, in fact, they could probably do more with a series like this, then they could ever hope to acheive with movies, at least with todays technology.
I hope that it's a little more popular this time 'round....but if not, I'd be thrilled just to have the opportunity to check out one more series.

Ah, ok...I'm done...

what...MTV cancelled something good...go figure.

I am a little familiar with the series, the look it had was very interesting...maybe it will be resurrected on anothe network...I'm sure that Sci-Fi would like to have it.

"maybe it will be resurrected on anothe network..."

Yeah, that's apparently what'll most likely happen.
I can't wait for the second series, IF and when...
If you can grab the double dvd of the entire first series, I'd highly reccomend it - no matter HOW MANY fools were down on it.

I mean, the 90's tv series was, and still is my favourite, but I think that if it took the right direction, the newer show could potentially equal, or even out-do it.

the music was good .. the title theme was by someone famous - i cant remember too .. electro - trance

my all time fave is the late 60's series which started out straight and eventually evolved into some drug induced fantasy with insane artwork and bizzare plots and villians.
The same scenes were repeated over and over again .. damn lazy stoned hippy artists :)

You mean Spider-man and friends??
Yknow, I've always wanted to check that out...

And yes, I agree, the music was VERY good, not just at the opening sequence, but throughout the show even during the "kissy" scenes...

i think it was called 'the amazing spiderman' or just spiderman.

52 episodes between 1967 - 1970

and the music in that show was fantastic too.

there is a complete series 6 dvd set available.

Brie was spiderman for halloween. People couldn't deal with it, lol. Oh, uh it's spidergirl something or other. But she wasn't cause she was dressed up as spiderman.

But the first time i saw the revamped spiderman, i was like "woah the graphics", it's awesome.

There is this other cartoon, not so much for kids, but it's called Delta State. And it's almost like they draw over top of actors. The motions are so lifelike. Also very cool.
