Dreamcatcher

I always feel the need to ask you guys before I rent something.

I cant remember if I heard that this was really good or really dumb. I did read that it is gory.

Any thoughts?

I thought it was extremely bad. The first half hour or so is actually ok but it goes downhill from there. I'm a King fan and had read the book so I wanted to like it but it stunk.

I didn't like Salem's Lot much but IT, Pet Cemetary, The Shining? Great stuff. As for Dreamcatcher I haven't watched it yet myself but I've heard differing opinions albeit most say it sucks. The one person who said they liked it gave the entire plot away to me so it's doubtful I'll be watching it...hate it when people do that...

I wasn't a big fan of this book to start with....one of my least favorite of his books........started good and declined from there!

I actually thought the movie would be unbelievabley bad. It was very bad........but if it were truer to the book, scene by scene.....that would really have done it!

See it....but be warned not to expect much!

I agree that with a few exceptions King's books didn't translate well to movies. Mosdt of his earlier books were just so good though that anything close would make a decent movie (Salems lot, Shining, Carrie, Cujo, Pet Sem, Misery, Dark Half were all at least ok) Anyone who read these though knows that as good as the movies may of been they just couldn't compare to the books. I really think that SK's has been on a serious losing streak though for a LONG time. Off the top of my head I think Insomnia was about the last scary book he wrote. It would pretty much be impossible to make a good horror movie out of his latest books, Dreamcatcher included. I don't know what happened to him. I keep hoping his next book will be like his early ones but a few pages in it's obvious their not even close.

I know, maybe he is burning out!
I want to read Black House yet, and have Everything's Eventual sitting here, so we'll see. I have no idea why most of the movies don't work. I guess as I have said before, better left to the imagination! :)

The only book of his that I read before I saw the movie was Pet Sematary. I didnt really get into King before I saw it. So then I saw The Shining, Carrie, IT etc. and tried to read the books but now I cant get into them because I alread know the endings.

I've found that sometimes I like to reread a book after I see the movie (if it's good) I caught some of Pet Sem latenight a week or so ago and found myself digging through old books looking for it the next day. I've been skimming LOTR again for the last 2 years (since FOTR came out)
