Two Films With Potential

With all the unnecessary remakes out there (films that were great to start with and are now just being rehashed to make a quick buck), why doesn't somebody look at old films that had real potential but were failures due to poor acting or some other fixable cause?

Two films that I felt had real potential were Impulse (1984) and Parts The Clonus Horror (1979). The basic storylines were very creepy, but completely derailed by low budgets and terrible acting.

What other films fit into this category?

P.S. I know about The Island (2005) being a rip-off of Clonus (and I hated the former more than the latter) so let's not have Michael Bay do these films.

good thread!possibly loads of films out there but of top of my head "driller killer"? bit slow and boreing in places, but with a better crew and acting it could have been great. still own it though.in fact bought it twice as 1st was cut so got the cult epics version.

I'd like to see a remake of Haute Tension - it could have been a classic with a tighter script and better editing.

I thought Driller Killer was outstanding. The low-budget esthetic is part of its appeal.

I would like to see a big budget remake of Countess Dracula, not sure who I want in the lead part, maybe Sharon Stone or Cate Blachet. :)

You cannot exchange Ingrid Pitt for Cate Blanchett.

Yeah, I'm with you. It has a real charm as it is, gritty and ghoulish and unpolished.

After watching The Island of Dr. Moreau recently- the Burt Lancaster version- I finally found a movie I would out in this thread.

Lancaster is a perfect Moreau- cold and menacing. The script is well written- it's set in the period the original story was.

The low-budget effects totally detroyed any credibility of this production though. The animal creatures are so poorly done they're laughable instead of frightening. I mean really poorly done. If they had had a decent budget and time to make great creature effects this film could have been good.

First date with my "now" wife was a double feature at the drive-in....this movie and oddly enough "The Bad News Bears".
