So today, I had a moment of clarity..(fitness)

First off, let's get on track.. anyone else in here a fitness freak?

If not, you probably shouldn't even read on.

Anyway.. I live in Hollywood, I'm a 24 hour fitness member BUT my ex works at Equinox (posh posh gym here in west hollywood) so I'm lucky enough (on the days she is working) to visit that gym and use it's facilities.. I don't feel bad, I just don't really feel like paying a $499 initiation fee and a $149.00 a month in membership dues.. I'm happy with my $24.99 charge at 24 hour.

I'm sure many of you are just like "well, why not just go to 24 hour?" well, let me tell you this.. with the cost of Equinox and the type of clientèle it services.. it's much easier for me to get around on the equipment without having to wait.

Anyway, today I visited Equinox and to my surprise, the gentleman working out next to me near the smith machine was mr. Ryan Reynolds.. So I'm like "whoaa".. I don't EVER get star struck, but I just respect this guy.. he's a great actor, funny, and is into motorcycles much like me. So in between my sets and his I bring up motorcycles, which we discuss for a few minutes before his out.

The time talking to him.. I noticed, (not in a gay way) that we're both 6'2" and roughly the same exact upper body build (long torsos, high obliques, shoulders).

SO long story short (too late right?) I'm using this guy as my goal by April (26th birthday) of next year (2010).. I'm about 190 pounds now, 13.2% body fat, but I'm going to get myself to 195 pounds and 7/8% body fat by that time (easily doable in 6 months).

So, anyone want to take any bets? I have a buddy who's a trainer who is going to push me and I have 2 triathlons coming up in spring of next year I'd like to tear up.

Who else here is into this stuff? have anyone you use as inspiration? I almost feel like if you have something visually to look at, it makes the desire to reach the goal that much better. Best part of the story is that when I got home today, I had left the TV on for the dog and Amityville Horror was on (the re-make).. which has Reynolds in it.. funny shit right?

If you are a fitness fool like myself, and have any questions (exercise or ways to shed pound or put on weight) hit me up, if I can't answer it.. I'll pass it along to my buddy trainer.

This is my goal by April, 2010

This thread probably couldn't get any "gayer".. but oh well right?

Wow, great goal. i wish I had some celebrities to use as goals when it comes to fitness. I think I am basically at my goal though. I'm 5'4", 110lbs. I could probably stand to do more crunches and sit-ups but I really don't need to. I have a flat tummy, toned if you will, but not really a 6pack or anything.

The only thing I know I need to work on is building a bit more muscle mass. I don't usually eat meat, so I don't get a lot of protein. Any suggestions on "good tasting" protein drinks?

I'm a huge fan of ON whey protein shakes.. 22 bucks or so for a good amount of it. You just need about 30-35g per serving or so.. and typically the best time to take it in is 30-45 minutes after strength training (whatever that may be for you)

You can also go with SOY protein if you want to switch it up.

Totally into this stuff!
I use Elektra/ Jessica Biel in Blade3 and Lara Croft as visuals. JeeJa Yanin is like my ideal, skillwise.

I have just recently switched to a macrobiotic diet and have been getting just about every fucking cold/flu(cept swine thank god) virus that passes within a 100 yards of me.

Not sure what to add to make my resistance a little stronger since my choices are limited. I know it's just the drastic change-up that is making me sick and eventually my system will get much stronger with this diet...but anything to help me till then?

Also, I have lost the 15 pounds I accumulated during my divorce but am not strong like I used to be.
Was thinking about finding some muay thai classes (I used to do Kumdo) but the nearest one is over an hour away...do NOT have the time or gas money to waste on that.
What about the P90X infomercials? Worth it?
Or that other extreme Beach Body workout...Insanity?

What about Ab Circle Pro? Can you really get a six pack with that thing??

I want to do something at home because I have never been inspired with a gym membership to stick with it.

I could possibly join another Martial Art class...but small towns are limited there as well, and starting all over as a white belt...tedious at my age.

The best thing I have found is when I don't go to the gym... I'll do a simple little hour of working out..

If you can, get one of those large inflatable balls to work your core.. you can do tons of variations of things on it.

Typically a great way is just to do your basic crunches on it (gives you more travel back and doesn't hurt as much as the floor) and then you can also place your feet on it and use it for incline push ups (helps your core, triceps, shoulders and chest).. and the balancing helps out your abs.

Planks are a great thing to do in between core workouts, basically just get in the push up position, but with your elbows on the ground and hold that position (straight back) for 30 seconds at a time.

I don't really trust any of that P90 stuff or whatever it may be.. diet is really 80% of it as well in getting your abs to show.

Just free weights and martial arts for me, I like gyms but don't usually have time to go. I don't really want to look like anybody else... that's just odd. May everybody reach their goals, even Newb.

@Nova have you tried yoga? Cause you wouldnt believe the strength I have gained just working with my own weight as resistance. I suggest taking a beginners class if you have it in town (know how you feel about small towns, we just got a yoga teacher in now and its at the library) but it will help you know if you have correct posture and then you can get a few dvd's and do it from your living room during the day.

Theres no belts in MMA do that instead..

Any belts for the most part are meaning less - if you have a decent skills you'll fly up the grading and also there'll be guys in very dojo/dojang who will just want to spar regardless of you belt level.
