Help with Drivers

Can someone help out with this shit?
Needed to reformat - got through that, and set up my net connection again...the only thing that's pissing me off right now is the video/sound drivers.
I have a dvd for 'em, yet the fucking thing says it's installing whatever, and the problem of no sound and laggy video is still there.

Is there any FREE online programs that anyone knows of that can assess which drivers you need/are out of date, then obtain them?

What sort of computer is it? Desktop or laptop?

Basically, you need to find out what sort graphics card you have and what the motherboard/soundcard is.

If it is a desktop it will either have an ATI or nVidia card, so you will then need to go to the appropriate site (ie ATI or nVidia's site) and download the latest driver for your OS.

Same with the motherboard/soundcard. Find out which one you have and get the latest drivers from the manufacturer's site.

If it is a brand name computer (Dell/HP etc) or notebook, then go to the manufacturer's website for motherboard drivers. You will probably have to go to the driver download page and then enter the exact model you have. If it has on-board graphics (as opposed to a separate card) you will probably get the driver for the graphics from the motherboard/manufacturer's site.

Tell me what your computer is and I can be a bit more specific.
