The Assholes Under My House
little buggers have been there for 2 years, raised at least one family.
I actually kind of like them - they don't seem to do any damage but yesterday they started digging where the grass was exposed so I banged on the glass to scare them away .. they ran to the hole under the porch .. but then just sat there and stared at me. anyone (other than the Australians and Kiwis) live anywhere where you don't see these things all over the place ? ![]() ![]()

them suckers are mean......don't get to close. I had one fall down my chimney last year.....came crashing into my living room at 2 am....scared the shit out of me and the wife.
Ran downstairs and looked at him...he gave me a "who the fuck you looking at" kinda look and went back up the fireplace.....never to be seen again. |

one got between me and the house when i was putting the garbage out early one morning in the rain .. he wouldnt move - i was hissing and waving and he just sat and stared at me until he got bored.
the babies sure are cute though - watched one play with a ball my kid left on the back porch a couple of times

Mmmmm.....uh. yeah, yeah. Raccoon. Sort of a cross between a cat and a bear...a friend in Northern California had one that would come to the porch every night to eat marshmallows out of a dish...he called it "Moo Moo"...supposedly these guys can be dangerous when crossed, but I never had a bad run-in with them. Opossums make me nervous, though, with their little toothpick legs and their scary pointy snout...we had an opossum that was running around the apartment building a lot........it was going up and down the stairs, running past everyone's door, going pee pee in the car port under people's cars...weird little gray football-looking thing.

They can be really vicious and nasty.
Last year, my uncle was having a big problem with one of em making itself cozy in their basement. The whole place started having a weird stench pretty soon and he decided to chase em out with a broom and a baseball bat...and got his thumb bitten clean off in the process. Had to take several shots back then for it and now is 9-fingered for his life. They left though, and never returned. There was a pappy, a mommy, and 3 kids.

yeah - you don't screw with these things when babies are concerned.
their dedication is kind of admirable in a way - i've seen humans who don't show that much care where their kids are concerned. awful what happened to your uncle though.

My aunt raised some that she got from some wildlife rescue foundation and they were fairly tame. Adorable little guys, but I've had one or two hiss at me before and they can look damn mean. The other night I actually had one come up on my deck and sit on our outside bench. He looked pretty comfortable.

I actually used to have a pet racoon. He was touchy at the worst. We called him theif, found him as a baby on the side of the road, and waited to see if there was a mother around, and there wasn't so we picked it up and brought it home. he lived for 3 years before getting out and getting attacked by a neighbors dog. He was really friendly, but he had these times when he would get pissy. We kinda figured out when to leave him alone. It really wasn't that bad. It was smart though, we had to keep the kitchen door closed at all times, otherwise he would get in there and try getting into the cupboards.
We had a muskrat get into the house before, that ended up in my closet. THat was a nice surprise first thing on a saturday morning when i went to grab something. Started hissing and jumped at me, so I slammed the door in its face and ran to find my father, almost shit myself when it jumped out at me.
