Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne?!

November 9 2007

Production on the live-action Max Payne adaptation seems to be gathering pace, with the project's director, writer, and most interestingly, a possible star, all announced today.

Mark Wahlberg is in talks with Twentieth Century Fox to play the titular undercover cop, who is haunted by the murder of his family and hunted by both the mafia and the cops.

Meanwhile John Moore, whose most recent projects include WWII drama Behind Enemy Lines, horror remake The Omen and airborne adventure Flight of the Phoenix, is set to direct.

Mark Wahlberg is hot property right now after his hilarious Oscar nominated turn in The Departed. He recently starred in M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening - to be released next summer - and is currently shooting The Lovely Bones with Peter Jackson.

Beau Thorne has written a script, although it is not known yet how it will differ, if at all, from the plot of the game.

(btw...if you look closely, the character's facial features do match that of Wahlberg's. Can he pull this off...is the big question)

Mickey Rourke would have been perfect.

Clive Owen would be way better...Just see Sin City and (to a lesser extent) shoot 'em up. I've always hoped if there was a MP movie it would be him...ah well.
They could've done worse than Whalberg though.

Yeah, stupid but fun...my thoughts exactly.
In Sin City he was so close to MP, it wasn't funny...right down to the voice-over dialogue, even had the look down. Shoot 'em up, ongoing proof he can do the action bit...
So my wish to have a Max Payne film starring Clive Owen, directed by Luc Besson doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

I'll still see this though, I only hope that it'll maybe change the storyline a little, add some twists we won't expect, the game itself told enough of a movie like dtory, a carbon copy would just feel like a cop-out.
Having seen Whalberg in Shooter, I can deal with that.

Mark is a very versitile actor though. Of course, he is one of my favorite actors, but I do think he can pull it off. He is kinda of the badass of hollywood. Maybe even Benico Del toro

Ha, in that picture, Del Toro is doing the same "something crammed up the ass" expression Max Payne had throughout the entire first game.

In that pic Max's facial expression totally reminds me of Christian Slater. Could've been a scene from Kuffs.

puuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrr

You just said my favorite C-Word...

I definitely think that Clive succeeds as a tortured action hero... And... mmmmmm...

BUT

I am really starting to respect Mark Whalberg. It was Huckabees in which he really shone to me and I thought he was phenomenal in The Departed, though I'm not sure how well he can depict being haunted by personal demons... I worry that he might be too over the top.

But I have Whalberg faith.
