Is this a good idea?

So a few months ago I was talking to my uncle about horror movies and I mentioned Evil Dead. He told me that he kind of stayed away from them because they looked pretty cheesy.

I thought I'd buy him the Evil Dead DVD on amazon. It's easy (He lives in Vancouver, Canada, I'd like to ship with amazon instead of by myself)

I have to get him a gift, I'm just not sure if this is a good idea. Should I get him a movie he hasn't seen, if I think he will like it? Even after he seemed kind of uninterested in the movies?

Would Army of Darkness be a better choice?

I'd say that if he generally prefers adventure type movies over horror, then yes.
However, if you gave #3 of a movie series to me, and I'd not seen the others, I'd not watch it - but that's just me, I'm so continuity psycho.
Look, Raimi never pretended Evil Dead was something that it's not. It's a minimal budget splatter film, simple storyline, simple characters, fucked up zombie/demon type things, and buckets of gore.
Overall, the films are great fun - if he watches them, he might just "get it".
you know, if I were you, I WOULD get the whole box set for him, or start at one.
If he doesn't dig it, he'll probably give it to you anyway, right?

So, you either get the satisfaction of showing someone a few films they end up enjoying, thus eating their words.
OR
You get to keep 'em.

Win-win, no?

...

I think I'm going to play it safe and get Shaun of the Dead when it comes out instead. Atleast I know he'll love that movie.
