Busy Weekend

Did anyone else (in America, anyway) take advantage of the long weekend to get some much needed tasks done?

I, for one, got a shitload done. I mowed the lawn. I also got about 70% of our new bathroom set up (the drain is set and the tub is installed. Next on the plate is water seal, crete-board and tiles)

And, during the wonderful torrential rainstorm on sunday, we managed to put up almost 200' of stockade fence.

Some words to the wise:

Even if it says it's a 1 man power-auger, use 2 people... When they hit roots and rocks, they tend to get away from you, and that leads to some pretty painful shoulder and knee injuries. Also, occasionally let someone else lug around teh 60 lb bags of concrete. i think i have pulled every muscle in my arms and hands.

If you have to hand dig anything, WEAR GLOVES. I managed to cut the skin under every fingernail on my hands.

Anyway, we also manage to plant a japanese maple, 2 hydrangea, 2 oriental lillies, and a rose.

And i found 6 gigantic 4 leaf clovers in under a minute.

How was everyone else's weekend?

House cleaning.

Vod, you need my dad. He's brilliant at stuff like that. Seriously. Ask me and I'll ask him. He might have some good advice.

worked like a slave, big boss moaned a bit, so I worked even more like a slave.

other than that, just the usual weekend. Hellped out over at my Bros new place last week, they've got a huge garden now, needs a fair bit of reorganising, wth about 6 or 7, 30 to 50 foot conifer trees needing to be taken down. We'll handle a few of the shorter ones.... I'm pretty hand with a chainsaw and a leatherface mask :D but the rest will have so much crap needing to be taken away, contractors will probably be hired to cut em down.

I think thats what did the damage :p ;)

I can sympathyse, other than shooting yourself acidentaly in the foot, back grief has gota be the worst pain to endure. No mater how still you are, any slight movement and it hurts, even laying down flat out on your back, and attempting to lift a forearm and the pain is agony.

what I found to be a good help, was the 'hot and cold' treatment in the shower for about half an hour at a time.... shower under the hottest water you can stand, without burning for five minutes, then cut out the hot water and stand under the cold shower for five, then turn on the hot again, and so on... and so on. I know it can be a shock standing in the cold water, but it's extremely good for blood circulation, which aids recovery quicker. I learnt that from a friend who trains at kung-fu and used to get many muscle and tendon injurys.

Washed my truck, fixed the gas leak on my friend's stove, found a CD I've been looking for for months, drove to Chicago to visit friends, drank like a sailor, ate chicken...
