As Above So Below -

A good one, or at least I think so. I saw the trailer to this a while back. I only remembered the car on fire scene and people being in the catacombs under Paris. However, the way the movie started I thought I was watching the wrong movie. The main character is a Lara Croft Tomb Raider type. In fact I think this is a better young Lara Croft movie than those two from Angelina Jolie. It's not really a horror movie but a supernatural adventure movie like a Tomb Raider or Indiana Jones. It might have been better as a real movie and not a found footage trick. It does seem like they use stuff from other movies like The Descent and others. But I still think this is pretty good. A bit more thought and I think it could be worth owning. There are a few things that seem to be there just to check a list and that don't make sense to me. Like the strange girl at the club and how some deaths happen versus others. But this is the sort of movie that afterwards I wouldn't mind seeing what other adventures the main character could go on.

Purge Anarchy -

I rarely watch the news but with all that's happening Baltimore, I watched it a bit. Wolf Blitzer on CNN, that name always cracks me up and can't be real, kept talking about how people were talking about having a purge. I thought that was strange as it was mostly white people locked in their homes in the first movie and happening to let a black person in. And for the most part the well off, entertainment section of Baltimore seemed secure and intact. So I thought maybe it's the second one the newscaster was referencing. And I kind of guess that's it. I'm not sure as I only watched like 15 minutes of news.

Anyway on to the movie, it's barely better than the first one. But both Purge movies are bad which is strange because they both have good casting. Yet they have little real commentary about this Purge. Something I thought was missing from the first movie and now the second. Although at the end of Anarchy they do address what I thought was going on beginning with the first movie, if you go back and check my review of that one. Plus there is a guy we see early on who's against the purge that shows up near the 3/4 mark of the movie. However I still don't know why the mother and daughter were targeted at the beginning of Anarchy. Or the point of the movie when it really boils down to a new realistic type of horror. Kind of like those Saw movies. It's something different. Perhaps I just prefer supernatural and monster stuff more.
