Underwhelmed for some reason. Maybe it's because of the nosedive the film took in the second half. There was a nice horror/sci-fi angle mid-story the makers could have exploited, if they had went in that direction. Instead, virtuousness wins and the film becomes so-so. Even the
Lawnmower Man angle could have been good, but it was not to be.
This could have been a good 60s/70s film with Vincent Price in the lead, but it doesn't come off as a Depp vehicle. Both him and Burton need something fresh (like
Ed Wood or
Sleepy Hollow) to get back into the groove.
