I used to use a home theater PC, hooked up to my TV and surround system, but couldn't get a smooth stream on HD. Also, Netflix via the web site doesn't do 1080p or 5.1 surround sound.
So I switched to a Blu-Ray player, which was okay, but kinda slow and the app was pretty cumbersome.
So I switched to my new Smart TV (I bought it for myself for Christmas), which has a dual core processor built in. I really like that setup. The app is fast, and having the remote built into the TV remote is convenient.
I also watch fairly regularly through my Samsung Galaxy S3, which you'd be surprised works really well, and is just as high def as my TV. At close range it's essentially the same size. Sometimes I'll use my Jambox via Bluetooth for sound, but usually it's through headphones.
Once in a while I'll use a tablet -- kindle fire, iPad, HP Touchpad (rooted with android), Microsoft Surface, Dell Venue 8". Some of those I've accumulated from projects at work (I'm a software engineer). I usually just prefer my phone though when not using the TV.
