The genre sure could use some ingenuity. 2013 was a very mediocre year for horror IMO.

Carrie (2013)
Julianne Moore was the highlight of this one giving a great performance as Carrie's mother. Thought they did a good job of making the character of Chris Hargensen completely unlikable too. I thought Moretz was way too attractive to pull off the weirdo loner outcast character but otherwise she gave a likeable performance that you could empathize with. They went a bit overboard with the CGI towards the end but that was to be expected. Entertaining enough but overall the film didn't bring anything new to the table only changing the story to the modern setting making this a slick but ultimately hollow reproduction of De Palma's film.
