Munger Road (2012)
Quote:
In the small town of St. Charles, four teens drive to the remote Munger Road section with a video camera, hoping to capture evidence of a local legend that says if you put your car in neutral on the railroad tracks, ghosts of little children will push you safely out of harm's way. Meanwhile, a psychopath who murdered six kids in the area years ago has just escaped from prison, and the town sheriff and deputy starts looking here & there to find him before an annual Festival starts the very next day. When the teens' car dies and their cell phones fails to get any reception, they soon encounter a shadowy figure that begins picking them off one by one. The cops, meanwhile, unravel secrets from the town's past in an effort to find not only the killer, but also the those 4 teens...before it's too late.

Though this slow-burn, low budget slasher (with some supernatural elements) offers a disappointing "to be continued" ending, but liked the way they treated genre's cliched "the night he came home" sort of theme with having almost zero onscreen killing/violence. The decent cast & its atmospheric tension driven approach actually kinda worked pretty well till the very end which surely will piss off many viewers. It all just needed another 5 to 10 minutes to reveal the 'twist' adequately & then could offer a hint for the sequel. Anyway, overall not bad.
