I would have agreed with you but then I saw the last episode-
Doctor Who:The Power Of Three
Complete return to form-heavily indebted to the Eccleston/Piper series without resorting to emotional manipulation of the viewers which was the only flaw of that era. There is a real emotional depth here but it's very subtle and very British. Remarkable that the whole 45minute episode takes place during "The Year Of The Slow Invasion" as Amy calls it. It does successfully show the conflict of interest between Amy/Rory's two parallel lives-mundane life on earth and life with the Doctor-and thows into the mix the standards of invention that the series had been missing since Asylum Of The Dalek's. However it condenses everything to then expand it on a superbly breathtaking scale (given everything crammed into this which I suspect requires a second viewing to fully apprecaite) and scope heading stellarwards towards the end.
Judging by the trailer for the final episode of this portion of the series it's gonna feature the ever reliable "Weeping Angels" the foes that brought the fear factor back to Doctor who-I hope it's gonna be an epic cliffhanger :)
