Never one to miss an opportunity to take a celebrated cult film and butcher it into a large-scale action spectacle, Hollywood has decided it wants to tackle a retelling of David Cronenberg's "
Videodrome."
Deadline reported that commercial director Adam Berg is in talks to helm the story about the head of a television station who becomes transfixed with a sadistic and deadly TV series known as "Videodrome." Cue vagina stomachs, gooey VHS tapes, and James Woods making out with a pulsing television set.
Universal apparently wants to modernize things, with the addition of nano-technology, and all the CG-heavy, sci-fi action you can expect from the studio.
Ehren Kruger ("
The Ring," "
The Ring 2") wrote the updating of the 1983 movie. Remaking a Cronenberg film — especially one of his early body horror masterpieces — is no easy task. We're not thrilled with the news, but we're willing to see what the new flesh has in store just so we can say, "We told you so."
