A film by another Mann
Staci Layne, your review does confirm one concern I had watching the trailers. The movie almost seems like it could have been a good made-for-TV movie, but perhaps not quite big-screen worthy. A couple of the advance reviews were meh, but I've learned never to fully trust initial reviews from movies made by the Mann's.
I remember when Michael Mann's "Manhunter" came out it did not receive great reviews at first, but developed quite a following, and is still popular to this day. I can't pass by it when it's on cable without watching it. Brian Cox's more subduded, yet totally chilling take as Hannibal Lecktor is great. I was hoping for something similar from Ami Mann, meaning the actual movie is better than some of the early reviews.
Regardless, it looks like it's still a solid movie. I'll check it out in the theatres if it's playing in my area. I'm still trying to figure out how wide a distribution it will have.
