REAL fear-for me anyway!
Ok I have an appointment tomorrow 7-30am in hospital for an operation to have my tonsils taken out.T his is because I was in hospital recently with a tonsil abscess (quinsy). Anyway they lanced the abscess with a needle (without giving me any painkillers I might add) and said I was liable to develop one again so they offered me the operation (which they don't usually do here in the UK anymore). Needless to say I am absolutely bricking it to the point where I'm so terrified that I may not turn up. The thing is I've never had an operation before or had a general anaesetic. I don't just hate hospitals (like everyone does) they scare the life out of me. Also I can't get rid of the fear that I might wake up mid operation out of my mind. Furthermore the nurse who did my pre-op assessment was a nasty piece of work (long story)but regardless a friend of mine who is a fully qualified doctor told me-when I explained what happened with the nurse-that I wasn't examined properly for an operation (he noted that suffering with occasional high blood pressure and other things I won't go into here should have been more taken into account)and in his medical opinion I should have requested a second pre-op.
Any genuine advice on this matter is MUCH appreciated.
