Nifty little film about 26 men who volunteer to be either guards and prisoners for a research project (and 1000 dollars per day) based on psychological evaluation and human instincts. And things start to go wrong after the first couple of days...the whole experiment turns into a game of corrupted minds, bizarre sadism and shocking abuse.
Seemingly based on a real life incident,
The Experiment is a very dark and unsettling film. Cinematography is top-notch as they capture the essence of a prison and the claustrophobia one feels inside it, coupled with some really fidgety shots in infra-red. Characterisation is almost perfect, with Forrest Whittaker standing out above the rest, with an equal brilliant performance by Clifton Collins, Jr. as Nix.
Outstanding film. Recommended to everyone in here who is ready to plunge into the dark psyche of man.
