A few weeks ago I asked you guys to help me choose a title for a film I was making for my Media Studies coursework. You guys settled on "
By Candlelight". I liked it. Trouble is, I'm an idiot and for some reason was sure that "
Burning Wick" was the most popular (hence why it is in the film).
Essentially the project was to make a 2 minute sequence which would be the
opening of a film, the suggestion being that the film would continue afterwards (hence the odd last shot of my film).
Now, I know that in places the sound quality is...lacking - particularly the first shot. This was because when I realised I needed extra dialogue it was a
nightmare getting my actors back together and as such, I just got them to record it themselves and send it to me.
Likewise, the school camera quality is fairly shit. Also, the storyline
isn't particularly clear. Something I've had to remind many people of is that the opening sequence of a film is all about
suggestion. In the first two minutes of Psycho they don't say "It's Norman all along..." (If that's a spoiler to you and you haven't seen the film, please navigate away from this sight..you probably still have a MySpace page..)
Anyway, here it is.
If you find yourself totally enthralled then you might be interested in the entire process, very explicitly described in my Media Blog. Be warned, it's well over 30,000 words.
