Not sure where exactly you are going with this, but I thought Blair Witch was scary and fun. It wasn't disturbing at all. Just an awesome all around horror movie. Watching a newscaster kill herself on TV, however, is just straight up disturbing. There is no payoff, no 'what if' possibilities as to what might happen. You know what you are going to see, and you are seeing it for the sole fact of watching someone kill themselves.

Even when Blair Witch first came out, and I thought it was real, I was excited, not by the fact they will probably die, but by the fact that kids trapped in the woods with a possible witch terrorizing them was a great backdrop for a scary movie. I hoped they would live. I WANTED them to live. So I think there is a big difference between watching some smut video, and watching scary, documentary style films. Although I will say Horror films now cater too much to the Saw/Hostel torture-porn realistic style of film, and less to the subtle, far more horrific style, of classic horror movies like Rosemarys Baby, The Omen, and even Halloween (really not all that violent).
