as i recall this was a real experiment at a university - maybe stanford - and caused a whole firestorm of controversy after it was released
those conformity studies of the fifties and sixties were crazy - one had people being told by a person in a lab coat to shock someone else to near death and the hapless people just did as they were told. we are such sheep
