Do you have antivirus? If so, scan and see what comes up.
If not, can you get online at all? If you can, go to an online scanner eg at eset.com and do a scan.
You can set default programs by clicking on Start>Default Programs>Set Default Programs (this is for Vista, there is something similar for XP but can't remember the exact mouse clicks).
Otherwise, download an antivirus program on another computer, copy onto a usb stick, and install it to your computer and run.
If all else fails, back up your data and reinstall.
