Back on topic: last night I decided to check out some of the special features on the Criterion disc of Brand Upon the Brain! - some really cool stuff. 97 Percent True is an hour long series of interviews with people involoved with the film. It mostly focuses on Maddin, thankfully, and the man is just as facinating as you would assume from his work. He seems more down to earth than you'd expect for such a surreal, over the top filmmaker, but it was still really interesting to hear him talk about some of his influences and ideas. The other interviewees were interesting as well, but not on par with Maddin.

Also watched the 2 short Maddin films on the disc: Footsteps and It's My Mother's Birthday Today. I've always been in awe of Foley artists, so Footsteps was obviously pretty amazing...It's My Mother's Birthday Today was pretty damn disturbing though. Beautiful in some ways, but still disturbing.

I think I'll have to re-watch Brand... tonight.
