The Finalist jumped back in alarm and hurriedly put something in front, at the same exact moment the Predator let the plasma beam fly!

The plasma beam hit the solid, shiny plate-like thing which the Finalist was holding in front of him, and the thing slowly melted and dissolved, finally left as small liquid droplets on the floor. The Predator's eyes glowed for an instant, and then it vanished from sight into the darkness.
The Finalist looked around the place where the Predator had stood, and he picked up something shiny from the wall inside the door.
He scrutinised the weapon in his hand slowly. "Well, something is better than nothing I guess," he muttered to himself.
