Brilliant character study. The pacing was a bit poor, but Milland carried the whole thing and kept me spellbound throughout. Easily one of the greatest performances on film...I'm in awe.

Alright buddy, I've got a sincere recommendation for you.
Days of Wine and Roses (1962)
Last year I watched
The Lost Weekend (because I'm a big Wilder fan) and was very impressed, so I decided to catch a few more famous movies on alcoholism. I saw this Blake Edwards film a few days after and it made
The Lost Weekend look like
Snow White.
While Wilder's film makes a nice ctitique of alcohol abuse in America, Edwards presented a dark, hepless, abysmal crack at it. Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick honestly scare the shit out of me in this, and Lemmon's take has to be one of the best (and certainly his finest) performances I've ever seen.
See this film.
