And in this situation, antibiotics will make not one bit of difference to the outcome. They do nothing against viruses.
Problem is, people tend to demand a pill when they visit a doctor, otherwise they haven't gotten their money's worth. When people go to a doctor, and he says "It's just a virus, take some paracetamol for the fever, keep the fluids up, etc" people feel cheated. So doctors prescribe antibiotics. And people get better. Which they would have anyway, had they taken nothing. But this reinforces the "need" for antibiotics next time. So the cycle continues....
