If you mean meeting people on the internet, getting to know them, and then hooking up in real life...I think that's because:
1) Some people just don't know where to go to meet people, and talking online is easier sometimes than face to face...It also gives you a chance to try to get to know someone a little better before you even meet them in person, and closing a page is easier than walking away
2) Sometimes it just happens, even when you're not looking for a date or a relationship...You meet someone on the net, share the same interests, spend time talking about things over a period of time, and at some point something just 'clicks'...That happened to me (4 years ago, we're still together, and have a baby), and there's a couple that actually MET at THIS FORUM and are now married, and doing very well...I am SO happy for them :)
3) I'm sure there are many other resons that I have no idea about...The above 2 are just my best guesses

I agree with Rayne. I have social anxiety so it's much easier to meet online, or talk on the phone, than actually meeting someone in person until I know them better. Welcome to HDC! :)
