Hammer Horror, the legendary film studio responsible for the likes of Dracula, Curse of Frankenstein and The Quatermass Experiment, has started work on its first feature film production for more than 30 years.

The Wake Wood, which began principal photography in Ireland today, revolves around a grieving couple re-locating to a remote town and experimenting with pagan rituals to bring their dead daughter back for three days. But once they have agreed terms with village leader Arthur, a far bigger question looms - what will they do when it's time for their daughter to go back?

Timothy Spall, Aiden Gillen and Eva Birthistle star, while David Keating directs from a script he co-wrote with Brendan McCarthy.

Vertigo Films have acquired UK distribution rights, with the film expected to hit screens at the tail-end of 2009.
