The Strangers (2008)
The first half is tense and taught; it toys with the audience and gives them only enough well-calculated chills to generally startle. It's unfortunate that the last twenty minutes undo such hard work, causing the film to sink lower and lower into the depths of horror movie cliche. The final scene is embarrasingly contrived. Liv Tyler is magnetic, the real scares are icy, but ultimately this is forgettable.
