I'm not sure if Image Comics is considered Independent. I am sure it probably is.
Venom would be a villain.
Heroes are the ones that fight crime. lol
For example: Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Punisher.
People like that even if they act as a vigilante they are still an Anti-Hero who is able to be drafted.
Here are the exact rules on the Draft from where I am participating in this.
Quote:
Okay this is the Comic book Hero draft. Yes. HERO Draft.
That includes Anti-Heroes, from Lobo to Batman.
Sign ups:
Sign ups will be open for 48 hours, This allows anyone who wants to sign up, the opportunity to do so, Irregardless of timezones or otherwise. Once this time is over I will not be allowing any additions to the roster of players.
Drafting order:
Once Sign ups are complete, I will Randomly determine draft order by names out of a hat or some other form of receptacle.
Drafting information:
The Draft will be taking the form of the now all too familiar five round snake draft
Round 1: 1 to ??
Round 2: ?? to 1
Round 3: 1 to ??
Round 4: ?? to 1
Round 5: 1 to ??
Each drafter will have 12 hours in order to make their selections. Please I ask, do not complain or harry people if they don't draft quickly, spend the time between picks talking about the subject matter. This draft is partly about celebrate comics and getting people to check out stuff they haven't before.
Should a drafter miss a round, they only have 6 hours to make their pick in the next round. If they miss two drafts in a row, then they will be disqualified. If someone misses a round and are not disqualified then they will be able to fill the remaining positions on their team after the Fifth Round has concluded, in a 24 hour “First come, first served” Free For All.
Rules and Restrictions
Team Make up
Each team must contain:
One Marvel Hero
One DC Hero
One Independent Hero (Vertigo, Wildstorm, and Icon count as independent companies.)
any 2 others of your choice.
There can be only One
Those of you familiar with last comic draft will remember this Rule. This is the rule that states that there can only be one character with the same “Source of powers” any type in play at once. Once Someone drafts a Green Lantern no other Green Lantern can be drafted. How ever this does not exclude Ion, Alan Scott or Lanterns from the Other Corps. (Though I'm not sure the other Corps Can qualifies as Heroes. But If you can convince me... more power to you.). However if you find someone with the same power source, but a different name. For example “The Flash” and “Impulse” that is Fair Game. Now it has come up before that technically all the GL have different names, but I'm going to have to apply it in their case. (and yes, no matter what “earth” you draft Superman From, that precludes ALL superman variants.) to Quote Will in the last draft “This will force us all to think a bit harder when drafting our teams and allow us to draft teams that are truly unique.“
Which characters are eligible?
All Comic Book HEROES Are eligible. Alive, Dead.. trapped in an alternate dimension.. or even from other realities/earths. If you foresee a problem with a pick you want to make, PM me. We'll talk it out. (If you can convince me, you're good to go.) If you have a question over another players pick that has not been pre-approved, Feel free to bring it up in the thread. If it is serious enough, I will pause the clock and render a decision when possible.
There will be only I calling the shots here. I'm not playing and I'm impartial. I may consult people for advice but the ruling will ultimately be mine.
Since I am working, there are enough people in the draft that have my contact Info that I am going to make them my liaisons. If I'm not around, and a problem arises, they'll let me know.
They are Drena, Adam and Gavin. They will not render decisions instead of me, though they may communicate my choice. They are just people who can get in contact with me if the need arises.
My ruling is final. Anything else plays out in the court of popular opinion by the votes.
Manga Characters are NOT eligible for this draft.
Origin
Doesnt; matter. You wanna draft someone from Buffy? A-ok with me.
Transformers? G.I. Joe? Sure.
Seriously, as long as there has been a comic book about it - it's fair game.
Hero Status
In the last Comic draft we ran into an issue where, the DAY before someone drafted a character, a book was released that turned that character from hero to villain, so in order to circumvent that, I am placing this mandate: A characters eligibility is based on weather they are a hero or a villain on the day Sign ups begin. If the character is DEAD, Then their eligibility is based on their status at the moment of death.
After the Drafting Process
At the end of the fifth round, the teams will be complete. At that point, there will be the 24 hour Free for all period. Once that is over, everyone who wants to will have 2 days to collate anything they want to explain or promote their team, be it a book synopsis, a photo shop image or a hand drawn cartoon. After that We'll be opening voting for a week.
When Voting starts, you will vote on TWO category (and yes, in the same mail is fine)
Best overall Team your own personal preference can come into this one best theme, best character combo...
Best Story potential as I think THIS is the mark of a good comic, it is worth getting a vote on too. Basically this is the category that asks which of the teams would you most like to read a comic about.
Now I'm not going to stop people from voting for the same team in both categories, but I will remind you that Best over all team could be the team with your favorite characters on it, but the Best story team could be a story you would wanna see play out.
I will announce the top THREE teams in each category.
Prizes
I am offering NO prizes.
Zero
Ziltch
Notta.
If anyone else gets the idea to put up prizes, please, keep it to your self and send some PMs after the results are announced.
I kinda like the idea of a return to the simpler Ideals of the drafts.
