I would strongly disagree with that. He's still directing more good films than anybody else in America.
The Departed,
Bringing Out the Dead,
Shine A Light,
Gangs of New York,
The Aviator, and
No Direction Home all add up to a pretty impressive couple of years...especially for a 65 year old who's been making good movies for forty years.
He literally hasn't had a critically bad movie since the turn of the millenium- all certified fresh on rottentomatoes.com. It would be a challenge to name any other director who can even get two in a row.
