So, I'm snowed in... taking this opportunity to have a mini-marathon. All of the films I have selected share a common theme: direct-to-DVD (and from 2006/7.) Unlike most, I really dig these films. There's just a certain charm to them.

First up, Storm Warning. It's absolutely nothing new, nothing original. It's a re-hash of the "couple gets lost, encounters a group of hillbillies, insults them, the hillbillies start playing sick games with the couple, torture ensues, then the couple fights back..." storyline. Nothing new at all. We've seen it a million times, and we'll see it again. It wasn't even the best incarnation of this storyline... but you know what? I liked it. I guess it's trying to be a rough adaptation of Goldilocks? That's what some comments on IMDb led me to believe, and there is even a direct reference within the film's dialogue. The film tries to be shocking. When the hillbillies start torturing the couple, they pull of the male's towel, and force the wife to strip. It was sort of like that hotel scene in The Devil's Rejects - or at least I think that's what the director was attempting. Something that makes you sort of... uncomfortable. Well, this whole film really seemed to be wanting to shock you, to make you uncomfortable... but it was mild. Really mild, I thought. I've seen worse in many other films, so what I did see here didn't really effect me. They should have turned it up a few notches. They can't use the ratings-held-us-back excuse, since this is direct-to-dvd, and therefore exempt from classification. There was two good scenes of gore, one involving a trap which was rather elaborate.

Timber Falls is up next.
