Well, it's difficult for me to give a definitive rating on this film... I have a weakness for slasher flicks, so as long as it's not horrible terrible, chances are that I'll like it...

Strengths: The setting of the Dark Ride was definitely creepy. I am a huge fan of the antiquated Dark Rides, so it was really neat to use that as a haunted house setting. The slasher is also definitely scary, wearing the paper mache visage of one of the ride's characters, a little boy.

BUT

Weaknesses: Though I found the actual facade of the killer to be horrific, the scares didn't come from him. I was more jumping at the cheap shots (fake ghouls lurking around the corner, the animatronics of the ride jerking back and forth) than I was at the stalker. Also, while you definitely expect bad dialogue, this film was definitely no exception... The characters are two-dimensional and the eventual payoff left me feeling rather... cheated.

I give it three stars (where 1 is I hated it, 2 is I didn't like it, 3 I liked it, 4 I REALLY liked it, 5 I loved it), but I wouldn't necessarily recommend. I think that the positive rating comes more from enjoying slasher films (and I am a sucker for the escaped mental patient/ amusement park ride scenario).

Makes me almost want to see it again just thinking about it...

Not to mention, I REALLY loved the preview.

Hope that helps. Honestly, the best "new to me" slasher film that I've seen in the past 6 months... Black Christmas (the new one). The end was absolutely abysmal, but the film itself. Amazing.

Seen any good movies lately, Ush?
