I too was was brought up with a nice diet of flesh and blood as a child. The first film I can remember seeing was either Dracula Prince of Darkness or Frankenstein: the true story.
With the advent of VCR's our family kept the tradition up with anything from 2 to 3 films per night - the first being Cannibal Holocaust, closely followed by the likes of Halloween, Friday the 13th etc, and so far I have not attempted or even wished to kill anyone, oh o.k. maybe some people, nor do I possess a carving knife or machete, though I do have an axe - camping.
I currently work alongside the Police and have seen enough 'real incidents' to know the difference between make-up/sfx and the real thing.
No matter how scarey or bloodthirsty a film may be, there's no comparison to the real sickos out there. You just have to look at all the real serial killers, have they become what they are because of something they've seen in a film?, I would doubt it. Jack the Ripper didn't have a cinema/dvd's to watch; both Psycho and TCM where based upon Ed Gein, not the other way around.
