I have a scanned through 48, and I don't think it is 48. There is mention of some animals escaping from the Zoo, and it is apopcalyptic, in fact there are many similarities, but the people with Hoke don't seem anything like the characters in the book I am trying to find, as I vaguely recall they may have had supernatural powers, and I am sure it was a modern setting, as there was a department store, and an office block.
