If he is darker and is of the minorities, he doesnt get much respect in the social community. Sure he gets a job because of the quota, but no societal recognition. Even a poor person belonging to a high religion is respected. But that isnt all. The government is constantly improving the conditions for these minorities hence the higher caste people tend to get edged out, when it comes to selection of jobs, availability of daily wages, quotas etc. which is driving the resentments between the races only wider.
Here people are also divided as to the region to which they belong. Its like having 30 countries in India. Each state is a country in itself, and an outsider from another state, faces a lot of difficulty while adapting or adjusting himself to the new place.
National television over here has comedians and humorous people poking at the regional differences and colour/religious differences both. For example, a Sardar from Punjab is said to have very less grey cells and small IQs by the rest of the country, so they are always the biggest butt-ends of jokes. The South Indians get ridiculed for their pronounciation of the national language, and the East Indians for their gross ignorance about matters as a whole.
Wow, just re-reading all that which I typed shows that the situation is actually worse here. :(
