It is very light on the gore and heavy on deconstructing horror themes. I found it clever as hell, brilliantly acted and directed by a true craftsman. There are little visual homages to several classic 80s slasher flicks without ever playing anything with a "wink, wink" kind of awareness.
I know this one will divide the forum. Some will surely HATE it. Another sign of a good flick:D
And later on this year we get the opposite end of the slasher spectrum in HATCHET! which is a perfect thematic book-end to BEHIND THE MASK. The directors are good friends and their films should totally be viewed back-to-back.
