I agree with the ranking.
My favorite of the series is either the original or New Nightmare which are also the best in the series.
I prefer the darker Freddy because the jokes are there just in moderation. The original and New Nightmare are the best films which also happen to be the films he's darkest in. I enjoy the comedy but when it's heavy throughout the film it gets old fast. Freddy aside, I just enjoy dark films more than others.
Overall I think it's a good series with a couple of great movies, one or two subpar and a handful of decent, enjoyable films.
