some might say getting rid of it would be a favor - a life shaping lesson .. hard to tell, everyone is different.
if it were my child i'd tell the 'some people' to STFU, if it gives him comfort there's wrong with that, we do it as adults, i have my teddies on the bed, can't sleep without them there

why anyone would want to deliberately put a child through the pain of loss of a loved toy/blanket is beyond me
