Creep

First off, I’d like to say that I was going into this movie expecting a lot from it after all of the reviews I’ve read. I’ll go ahead and say that I was a bit on the disappointed side. It has a pretty quick start, but it slowly starts going downhill.

Basically, the lead woman falls asleep before her subway train is supposed to pick her up, and as you can probably guess, she misses it and gets stuck inside of the subway building. After seeing that all of the doors are locked and almost being raped by a friend (who also gets pretty slashed up at the beginning), she finds a couple of homeless people who live in a small compartment inside the main building. Trying to find a security guard to get out, she loses her guide, and is forced to survive the best that she can throughout the movie.

It turns into something kind of like The Hills Have Eyes half way through it, but the sad thing is that it never really explains why the creature is the way he is. It never says if he was a doctor or a child that was murdered by the doctor. Nothing is ever explained before the credits roll, and it mostly just leaves you hanging in the balance of confusion. Not something that horror films of this style should do.

The acting was decent, but for whatever reason, I didn’t really care for the actors in the film. They got into the story, and they seemed like they really were in danger, but for some reason, it just didn’t feel right. I don’t know if it was maybe the fact that I’ve never seen these particular actors in any other movies besides this one. I just couldn’t get into it.

As far as being scary, it was a little on the spooky side with some odd images and emotions in some of the scenes, and there were a few scenes that made me even jump a little. One of the scarier scenes being where doctor is preparing for surgery in the medical room. It just had a disturbing feeling. It’s far from being the scariest movie ever made, but it has its moments.

Another thing is that as fast moving as this film actually is, it was actually quite boring to me. Usually I’m a fan of fast paced slasher films and such, but this movie just couldn’t hold my attention. If it had been maybe quite a bit shorter, it may have been a lot better. But the fast pacing stretched out over the eighty some odd minutes just was too long. They crammed too much action into the time given, and not enough story to make it hold your attention. I caught myself looking away from the TV set numerous times.

My final word on this is that it was an okay film overall, needs more substance and less action in my opinion, but it won’t kill you to watch it. Good movie if you want to get a few frights, but you may want to stretch it out over a couple of evenings, because it’s not going to hold your attention all at once.

Story: 4/10
Gore: 5/10
Acting: 5/10
Scares: 5/10
Overall: 5/10
